On May 16, Miao Changxing, First-Level Inspector of the Equipment Industry Department I at the Ministry of Industry and Information Technology, stated at the 2023 China (Yizhuang) Intelligent Connected Vehicle Technology Week and the 10th International Intelligent Connected Vehicle Technology Annual Conference that in 2022, China saw new sales of intelligent connected passenger vehicles equipped with advanced driver-assistance systems reach 7 million units, a year-on-year increase of 45.6%, driving market penetration to 34.9%. Meanwhile, the adoption rate of advanced driver-assistance systems in new energy vehicles climbed to 48%.
The "Intelligent and Connected Vehicle Standard System" will soon be officially released and implemented, accelerating the launch of pilot programs for the approval and road deployment of intelligent connected vehicles. This initiative will also support the commercial application of L3-level and higher autonomous driving features, while promoting the increased adoption rate of C-V2X-enabled vehicle terminals.

1. Second-week passenger car sales in May
From May 1 to 14, passenger car retail sales reached 706,000 units, representing a 55% increase compared to the same period last year and a 24% rise from the previous month. Year-to-date cumulative retail sales totaled 6.602 million units, up 3% year-on-year.
From May 1 to 14, retail sales of new energy vehicles reached 217,000 units, representing a 101% increase compared to the same period last year and a 17% rise from the previous month. Year-to-date, cumulative retail sales have climbed to 2.06 million units, marking a robust 41% growth over the same period last year.
Starting from 189,800 yuan, BYD Han DM-i Champion Edition launched.
On May 18, BYD unveiled two upgraded models from the Han DM series: the Han DM-i Champion Edition, priced at RMB 189,800–249,800, and the Han DM-p War God Edition, priced at RMB 289,800.
The intelligent configuration is exceptionally comprehensive, featuring dual-frequency positioning, four-zone voice interaction, OTA upgrades, and a mobile phone NFC car key. Additionally, a new BSD blind-spot monitoring system has been added, and the W-HUD head-up display system has also been upgraded—with an even larger display size.
In terms of intelligent driving, it features 5 cameras, 12 ultrasonic radars, and 5 millimeter-wave radars, supporting functions such as ACC adaptive cruise control, lane-keeping assist, lane-departure warning, lane-change assistance, automatic emergency braking, and collision-avoidance alerts—achieving L2+ level driving assistance capabilities.
3. Volkswagen Group: Global sales surged 39% in April, with sales in China soaring by 79%.
Recently, the Volkswagen Group announced that its global vehicle deliveries in April increased by 39% year-on-year, reaching 720,200 units—driven primarily by a significant surge in sales in the Chinese market.
From January to April this year, the Volkswagen Group delivered 2.76 million vehicles worldwide, representing a 14% increase compared to the same period last year. In April alone, Volkswagen's sales in China surged by 79% year-on-year to 255,700 units, helping to drive a 0.4% growth in sales across China for the first four months of the year.
4. Geely Holding Group increases its stake in Aston Martin Lagonda to approximately 17%.
On May 18, Zhejiang Geely Holding Group Co., Ltd. announced that it has further reached a new cooperation agreement with Aston Martin Lagonda International Holdings, the British ultra-luxury performance brand. As part of this collaboration, Geely Holding has completed an increase in its stake in Aston Martin, bringing its ownership to approximately 17% following the transaction.
Aston Martin is undergoing an electrification transformation, with the company aiming to achieve zero emissions for its SUVs and GT sports cars by 2030. In April of this year, Aston Martin unveiled its Racing Green strategy, marking the official start of deliveries for its first plug-in hybrid model, the Valhalla, expected in early 2024. On May 16, senior executives from ON Semiconductor, a major U.S. semiconductor manufacturer, announced the company's intention to invest $2 billion to ramp up production of silicon carbide (SiC) chips. Silicon carbide is a third-generation semiconductor material known for its low energy consumption and high power efficiency, making it crucial for extending the driving range of electric vehicles.
At the previous Financial Analyst Day, ON Semiconductor set a target to capture 40% of the silicon carbide automotive chip market by 2027. ON Semiconductor forecasts that growth in this and other key areas will drive its revenue to expand at a robust compound annual growth rate of 10% to 12%, increasing sales from $8.3 billion in 2022 to a mid-range of $13.9 billion by 2027.
2. Four Dimensions Map: Subsidiary Receives Designation Notices from FAW Toyota and GAC Toyota
On May 16, Four Dimensions Digital Technology Co., Ltd. announced that its subsidiary, Beijing Tuxun Fengda Information Technology Co., Ltd. (hereinafter referred to as "Tuxun Fengda"), has received designated supplier notifications from FAW Toyota and GAC Toyota.
Tuxun Fengda will provide map and navigation products, as well as customized development services, for select models that FAW Toyota and GAC Toyota plan to mass-produce and launch starting in 2024. The specific sales volume and revenue will depend on the sales performance of the relevant feature-equipped models produced and released by FAW Toyota and GAC Toyota.
Regarding this collaboration, Four Dimensions Technology stated that the company has been comprehensively advancing technological innovation in recent years, continuously increasing R&D investment, and actively exploring new markets—steadily laying a solid foundation for the company's rapid and sustainable business growth.
