Proposed by the China Association of Intelligent and Connected Vehicle Industry Innovation (CAICV), the CSAE standard "Hardware Performance Requirements and Test Methods for Cameras Used in Intelligent and Connected Vehicles," jointly led by Beijing Horizon, Guoqi (Beijing) Intelligent & Connected Systems, Sanlais Optoelectronics Technology, and Zhejiang SunnyTechnology Co., Ltd., has recently completed its standard testing and verification process successfully.

As smart connected car technology rapidly evolves, higher performance requirements are being placed on in-vehicle cameras. However, the corresponding testing methods still remain at the traditional imaging level, failing to fully align with the advanced features of next-generation in-car camera systems—such as their high pixel counts, exceptional stability, and wide dynamic range.

Existing standards related to in-vehicle cameras can no longer meet the demands of technological advancements. There is a lack of universal criteria between automakers and Tier 1 suppliers to describe vehicle image quality, and module and algorithm providers currently lack a consistent evaluation system. Therefore, it is urgently necessary to develop relevant standards and establish a comprehensive, balanced objective and subjective testing framework for evaluating in-vehicle camera performance, thereby guiding the industry toward healthy and sustainable growth.

(Standard Architecture)

Based on the objective image quality assessment method outlined in "Hardware Performance Requirements and Test Methods for Cameras Used in Intelligent Connected Vehicles," the evaluation team focused on testing key parameters of the camera modules, including effective pixel count, resolution, frame rate, brightness uniformity, color uniformity, dynamic range, noise levels, low-light performance, defective pixels, ghosting, glare, and thermal drift under both high- and low-temperature conditions. Additionally, the standard was revised and refined according to the preliminary tests and the overall testing process. Zhejiang Sunny Optical Technology Co., Ltd., leveraging its Reliability Sensor Laboratory, successfully completed the comprehensive subjective and objective image quality assessments.

This test comprehensively validated the subjective and objective evaluation methods for image quality in intelligent connected vehicle cameras. Using a well-designed testing plan, Sunny Optical Intelligent Technology thoroughly assessed the performance of onboard camera modules under various scenarios, evaluating key metrics such as accuracy, response time, and error rate.

Shunyu Intelligent Technology will continue to collaborate with companies across the industry to advance the development of "Performance Requirements and Test Methods for Camera Hardware Used in Intelligent Connected Vehicles," thereby establishing a comprehensive evaluation system for in-vehicle camera image quality.
