ASEAN Plans to Develop a Regional Electric Vehicle Ecosystem

According to a report from Vietnam News Agency, at the 43rd ASEAN Summit scheduled to be held next month in Jakarta, Indonesia, ASEAN is expected to announce a new eco-friendly electric vehicle cooperation initiative under the "10+3" framework—combining ASEAN's 10 member states with China, Japan, and South Korea.

Berlianto Pandapotan Hasudungan, Director of the ASEAN Economic Cooperation Agency at Indonesia's Ministry of Foreign Affairs, stated that not all ASEAN member countries adopt the same standards, regulations, or electric vehicle infrastructure. "We recommend that China, Japan, and South Korea help us develop a regional EV ecosystem," he added.

Weekly Retail Trends of the National Passenger Vehicle Market in the Third Week of August

During the third week of August (August 14 to August 20), passenger car sales totaled 419,000 units, remaining roughly flat compared to the same period last year, while increasing by 11.83% from the previous week. Cumulative sales for August are nearing 1.2 million units, representing a 3.7% rise compared to the same period last year.

In the third week of August, new energy vehicle sales reached 149,000 units, representing a year-on-year increase of 43.5% and a month-on-month rise of 7.9%.

In the third week of August, Tesla posted nearly threefold year-on-year sales growth among automakers, while BYD sold 48,000 vehicles in a single week. Changan, Geely, and Volkswagen-South China all exceeded 20,000 units in sales last week. Meanwhile, most joint-venture brands experienced year-on-year declines of more than 20%.

On August 22, the first mid-to-large-size SUV under the JiShi brand—JiShi 01—was officially launched. The model comes in two variants, priced at RMB 349,900 and RMB 359,900, respectively. Power is provided by a range-extending plug-in hybrid system.

In terms of intelligent driving, the Jishi 01 standard smart-driving model will come standard with 5 millimeter-wave radars, 6 cameras, and 12 ultrasonic sensors; while the advanced smart-driving version features two NVIDIA Orin-X chips, delivering a total computing power of up to 508 TOPS, and is equipped with robust perception hardware.

The equipped 1.5T range extender can deliver a maximum output of 152 horsepower, while the total power of the electric motor reaches 350 kW (approximately 476 horsepower). The vehicle is fitted with a battery pack supplied by CATL, boasting a capacity of 56.01 kWh, enabling a pure-electric range of 232 km under WLTC conditions.

Huawei: Avatr 11 HarmonyOS Version to Launch on August 24

Avatr officially announced that the Avatr 11 HarmonyOS version will be launched on August 24. The new vehicle will feature Huawei's HarmonyOS cockpit, with the in-car system upgraded to an "exclusively customized" version of the HarmonyOS car OS—and it will also support the HUAWEI ADS 2.0 intelligent driving assistance system.

The Avatr 11 HarmonyOS version will come standard across the entire lineup with Huawei's HI full-stack intelligent automotive solution, featuring 3 LiDAR sensors and 34 advanced driver-assistance system sensors embedded throughout the vehicle. These sensors provide comprehensive 360° environmental coverage, with a maximum detection range of up to 210 meters.

The Avatr 11 Harmony Edition also boasts comprehensive parking assistance features, such as AVP valet parking, which can be used in four-story above-ground or underground parking garages, as well as automatic parking capabilities that allow the vehicle to neatly fit into mechanical or exceptionally narrow parking spaces.

Volkswagen's new flagship electric vehicle, the ID.7, has officially begun mass production.

According to foreign media reports, Volkswagen has begun producing its new flagship electric model, the ID.7, at its Emden plant in Germany. With the ID.7 rolling off the production line in Emden, it will debut in Europe this fall, followed by a North American launch in 2024.

From now until 2026, Volkswagen will launch 10 new electric vehicles, and the ID.7 will be one of them. Volkswagen also plans to introduce an entry-level model priced below €25,000, as well as a new electric compact SUV based on the ID.7.

The ID.7 is Volkswagen's largest electric model to date, and it’s the second global vehicle based on the MEB platform, following the ID.4. Reportedly, Volkswagen will first launch the ID.7 Pro version, which is powered by a 77 kWh battery and offers a range of up to 382 miles. Later, Volkswagen will introduce the ID.7 Pro S variant, equipped with an 86 kWh battery that delivers a remarkable range of up to 435 miles. Volkswagen emphasizes that the ID.7 is specifically designed for long-distance travel, featuring a spacious and comfortable interior as well as cutting-edge technology.
