1. EU member states reach agreement to ban the sale of new fossil-fuel vehicles starting in 2035
Recently, EU member states finally reached an agreement to approve a ban on the sale of new fossil-fuel-powered vehicles starting in 2035. The new regulation will be published in the Official Journal of the European Union and will take effect 20 days after its publication. However, the EU will allow the sale of cars powered by synthetic fuel alternatives after 2035.
The production of synthetic fuels relies on hydrogen extraction, achieved through electrolysis—a process that splits water into its hydrogen and oxygen components. During the remanufacturing process, hydrogen is combined with carbon dioxide captured from the air and converted into a liquid form. As a result, no new CO₂ is released during either the production or combustion stages, effectively achieving zero emissions.

1. Passenger vehicle sales in the fourth week of March
In the fourth week of March 2023 (March 20–26), new energy vehicle sales reached 128,700 units, representing a week-on-week increase of 13.2% and a year-on-year rise of 26.8%. Notably, for the first time recently, the year-on-year growth rate of new energy vehicles lagged behind the overall market expansion, while cumulative sales still grew by 18.7% compared to the same period last year.
This period saw range-extended models sell 8,607 units, representing a month-on-month increase of 7.5% and a year-on-year surge of 121.0%. Plug-in hybrid vehicles recorded sales of 33,090 units this period, up 24.8% from the previous month and soaring 123.0% compared to the same period last year. Meanwhile, pure electric vehicles sold 87,019 units this quarter, marking a 9.9% rise from the prior month—but a modest 4.4% increase year-on-year.
2. BYD Seagull Official Images Unveiled for the First Time
Recently, BYD released official images of the Seagull, a new compact car built on the e-Platform 3.0. Additionally, the Seagull will become BYD's latest entry-level all-electric vehicle, positioned below the Dolphin in the lineup. It is expected to be priced between 80,000 and 100,000 yuan, with the model set to make its official debut in April.
The Seagull will be equipped with a motor delivering a maximum power of 55 kW, paired with either a 30.08 kWh or 38.88 kWh lithium iron phosphate battery pack, and will offer two CLTC range versions: 305 km and 405 km.
3. TuSimple Unveils the "Fuel-Efficient Leadership" Series of Intelligent Driving Solutions
Global autonomous driving technology company TuSimple today announced the launch of its fully self-developed, end-to-end intelligent driving solution—the "Fuel-Efficient Navigation" series—designed to power TuSimple’s in-house-developed Autonomous Driving Domain Controller (ADC), built on NVIDIA Drive Orin chips. The solution integrates sensor inputs, high-performance middleware, a Vehicle Control Unit (VCU), and advanced autonomous driving application software.
The entire product line will emphasize fuel efficiency and safety, delivering seamless point-to-point navigation at high speeds. The Fuel-Efficient Navigation Pro version even supports L3-level autonomous driving in specific scenarios.
The product features a cost-effective sensor solution, equipped with 6 high-definition cameras and 2 corner radars. Powered by TuSimple’s proprietary BEV perception algorithm, it enables advanced functionalities such as high-speed point-to-point navigation and proactive safety features. Notably, the Pro version further includes 3 LiDAR sensors and delivers up to 254 TOPS of computing power, offering a maximum detection range of 350 meters and an impressive precision detection distance of up to 200 meters.
4. Li Auto has delivered over 300,000 vehicles in total.
Recently, Li Auto delivered the family-oriented six-seat flagship SUV—the Li L9, the six-seat luxury SUV—the Li L8, and the five-seat new flagship—the Li L7—to three users at its Beijing delivery center. With this milestone, Li Auto has now cumulatively delivered over 300,000 vehicles.
Currently, Li Auto has launched four models: the luxurious six-seat smart electric SUV Li Auto ONE, the family-oriented flagship six-seat SUV Li Auto L9, the premium six-seat family SUV Li Auto L8, and the new five-seat family flagship SUV Li Auto L7.
Li Auto noted that, through analysis of the 300,000–500,000 yuan market segment, several of its current models have achieved nearly 20% market share within this price range.
